Description
Identify and troubleshoot errors by the number of Alarm and / or Power light flashes on your iP3600 printer.
Solution
When a printer error occurs, the Alarm lamp flashes orange as shown below.
(A) Notes the number of flashes, and (B) represents flashes repeatedly.
Alarm Lamp Flashes Orange
The number of flashes indicates the type of error that has occurred. Count the Alarm light flashes on your printer and take the appropriate action to correct the error described below.
Number of Flashes / Cause | Action |
---|---|
Two (2) flashes: Printer is out of paper. / Paper does not feed. | Reload paper in the Rear Tray or Cassette and press the RESUME / CANCEL button on the printer. |
Three (3) flashes: Paper Output Tray is closed. / Paper jam. |

Four (4) flashes: Ink tank is not installed properly. / Ink may have run out. |
If multiple ink lamps are flashing, refer to Routine Maintenance and confirm the status of each ink tank. |
Five (5) flashes: Print Head is not installed. / Print Head is defective. |

Seven (7) Flashes: Ink tank is not installed in the correct position. |
Refer to Routine Maintenance and confirm the ink tanks are installed accurately. |
Eight (8) flashes: Ink absorber is almost full. |

Nine (9) flashes: The printer has not received a response from the digital camera. The digital camera or digital video camcorder connected is not compatible with this printer. |
When printing from a PictBridge compliant device, depending on the model or brand of your device, you may have to select a PictBridge print mode on the device before connecting it to the printer. You may also have to turn on your device or select Play mode manually after connecting the device to the printer. Refer to its instruction manual and perform the necessary operations before connecting your device. |
Thirteen (13) flashes: Ink level cannot be detected. |
If the function for detecting the remaining ink level is disabled, the ink tank is displayed in gray on the printer status monitor (Windows) and Canon IJ Printer Utility (Macintosh®). |
Fourteen (14) Flashes: Ink tank cannot be recognized. |
Refer to Routine Maintenance for additional information to check the ink tank status. |
Fifteen (15) Flashes: Ink tank cannot be recognized. |
Refer to Routine Maintenance for additional information to check the ink tank status. |
Sixteen (16) Flashes: Ink has run out. |

Nineteen (19) Flashes: An unsupported USB hub is connected. | If a PictBridge compliant device is connected via a USB hub, remove the hub and connect it directly to the printer. |
Power Lamp Flashes Green and Alarm Lamp Flashes Orange Alternately
A printer problem has occurred. These error indicate a hardware failure and are generally unrecoverable.
Try these steps to reset the printer:

Disconnect the printer cable from the printer.

Turn the printer off, then unplug the printer from the power supply.

Plug the printer back in, then turn the printer back on.
If the error returns, the printer may require service.
There are two options currently available to you.
- Warranty Service – If you are within the 1-year manufacturer's warranty and have your proof of purchase you are entitled to service or replacement. If you have purchased a CarePak Canon extended warranty, you may be entitled to additional options. Please create or log into your Canon Account to obtain service.
